Most homeowners have never heard of any of that, and there is no reason they should have. So here is what it actually means.

Master Elite: the part about who is allowed on your roof

GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. Master Elite is their top contractor certification, and they do not hand it out — a contractor has to prove licensing, carry proper insurance, and demonstrate a record of quality installation to get it. Only a small percentage of roofing contractors in the country hold it.

The practical consequence for you is warranty coverage. GAF's strongest warranties — the ones that cover the workmanship and not just the shingle itself — can only be offered by a Master Elite contractor. A shingle warranty is close to worthless if the roof was installed badly, because installation error is exactly what it excludes.

President's Club: the part fewer than half of them get

Master Elite is the entry point. President's Club is the tier above it, and fewer than half of Master Elite contractors qualify. It is judged on three separate measures — performance, reliability and service — and a contractor has to already hold the Triple Excellence award to even be considered.

We have earned it six years in a row. Not once, not in a good year. Six consecutive years, which is the part that is genuinely hard.
